Why does Lady Gaga’s rep gotta be a ‘Heartbreaker’? The Dionne Warwick biopic is a go — but the ‘Born This Way’ quirky singer won’t be apart of it, according to Lady Gaga’s publicist.

The upcoming biopic, based on Warwick’s autobiography that will focus on the beginning part of her musical career — has been making headlines since it was announced Friday morning at the Cannes Film Festival.

Rumour has it that former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett will be starring as the legendary diva Dionne. While the buzz surrounding the film was also because of Gaga’s casting after Warwick told the press that the ‘Bad Romance’ singer was onboard for it — it turns out she’s not.

“Lady Gaga is not attached to this project,” her publicist told Variety.

Awkward. But the good news is that a movie centring on a woman of colour will be hitting the big screen! Warwick’s story is an interesting one as she comes from an especially musical family who were members of the Drinkard Singers, a well known family gospel group and RCA recording artists. It was while singing in the background of a Drifter’s song that Burt Bacharach took notice of her voice. But the early part of her career was filled with a bunch of drama (including the misspelling of her name on a single) that would make for great scenes.

Never forget, Warwick is also the aunt of the late Whitney Houston.

Until we find out more about the project, we’ll leave you with this gem from 1985 featuring Dionne Warwick singing with friends Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder.
