The suggestion of having two men dance with each other on Dancing with the Stars got a “definitive no” from ABC, according to TMZ.
The idea to have two men dance together came up when Who Is Fancy, a gay singer signed by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, was booked to perform his new song ‘Boys Like You’ on the show. The song, featuring Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor, is to be performed on the November 23 episode and is about two men falling in love.
According to TMZ, Who is Fancy’s choreographer sent an email to a DWTS producer suggesting it would “be an awesome look to have 2 males dancing with each other.”
TMZ’s source says DWTS replied back with: “Apologies all but this is a definitive no from the network,” but that ABC will allow “near dancing.”
What is “near dancing” you ask? We have no idea, but ABC has been reluctant to allow too much gay on TV before. The network’s hit show Modern Family stars Cam and Mitchell as a couple, but it took a long time before they would show the couple kissing on-screen.
We’ll keep you posted on what actually goes down on the November 23 episode. We’re hoping Grande – a fierce advocate – catches wind of this and uses her power of celebrity to make things right, even though ABC is reluctant.
