#GiveElsaAGirlfriend has blown up on social media making it hard for Disney to ignore. The hashtag, started by Feminist Culture founder Alexis Isabel, is putting pressure on the media conglomerate to add some diversity to their extremely heteronormative storylines.
This comes after the latest GLAAD report that calls out Disney for not including any queer characters in their films last year, but with Frozen 2 coming out fans want Elsa to go gay.
“Giving young girls the chance to understand that a princess can love another princess the same way Cinderella loved her Prince Charming is vital to their development,” Isabel wrote about the trending tag.

If a gay Disney princess can turn little girls gay then why didn’t all those straight princesses turn me straight? #GiveElsaAGirlfriend

This comes after ABC’s Once Upon a Time finally included canon LGBTQ characters this season. Fairy tale characters Ruby (Meghan Ory) and Dorothy (Teri Reeves) shared true love’s kiss on the 18th episode of the fifth season and fans loved it.
“True love’s kiss has been a staple of this show since the beginning. This past Sunday’s episode was just another example of how in a fairy tale, as in life, love is love,” showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis said in a statement.
Also, can her girlfriend be a queer woman of colour? We’re thinking fierce warrior Mulan – Elsa could be a girl worth fighting for.
