The three time Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer is celebrating her 58th birthday on April 29. The Batman Returns actress has enjoyed a prolific career and while Hollywood is guilty of ageism, we won’t forget the magic Pfeiffer has made for popular culture here at TheFeminismProject.com.
Active in Hollywood for more than four decades, Pfeiffer has been known to take on female character roles that challenge social perception on what it means to be a woman. Called an ‘accidental feminist‘ back in 1990, her politics may not have been a driving motivation to take on the screen but her latent modern values challenged social perceptions through the characters she opted to portray.
“I like women who take control over their lives,” Pfeiffer said, “I like women characters when there’s no bullshit about them.”
The Scarface actress has enjoyed commercial success for movies such as What Lies Beneath and Hairspray in addition to receiving recognition from critics film performances in Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys and Love Field. Folks will also remember her doing the acting and singing in Grease 2.
Offscreen, she’s made neat life decisions and also proved to be awesome. Pfeiffer has been married to television writer and producer David E. Kelley since 1993 — who also adopted her adopted daughter Claudia Rose. The One Fine Day actress is also an out vegan.
Happy birthday, Pfeiffer! Thank you for bringing all your sweet talents to our screens.
