It’s of no surprise that Caitlyn Jenner is considered an affront to the trans community — and a number of protestors took her keynote speech in Chicago as an opportunity to call her out on it.
A video that found its way on the Internet captured Jenner, 66, on her way out of the Chicago Hilton after delivering her speech as a protestor shouts, “You are an insult to trans people, you are an insult to women.”
Folks from the Facebook group called “I Ain’t Cait” showed up to voice their issues with the I Am Cait reality star for being a representative of the trans community. The protestors waited outside of the hotel and organized their part of the event through the social media platform.
The purpose of the former Olympian’s visit was to speak to a group of 1,000 people at the 7th annual Speaker Series for the Chicago House. The organization is a non-profit who provides social services for those impacted by HIV/AIDS in addition to other LGBTQ issues.
There are many folks in the trans community who are not okay with Jenner representing them or being their voice.
“Who, you may ask, did they select to speak on the issues facing trans people and especially trans women in our city?” The Facebook event page wrote, “Caitlyn Jenner, who lives in a mansion and has a net work of millions of dollars, while the average trans person has a 41 percent chance of experiencing homelessness and a nearly 50 percent chance of living off less than $10k per year.”
And, let’s all be honest, the protestors aren’t wrong.
