The 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards honoured the talented and recognized amazing works while including people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community and the usual suspects.

With Hollywood A-lister favourites there to present from Christian Bale to Rachel McAdams, the SAG Awards didn’t fail us by pretending people of colour, trans folks and and queer representation didn’t deserve nominations (re: #OscarsSoWhite) — in fact, diversity was the real victor of the night.

The best of film and primetime television nailed the glitz and glamour thing at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Jan. 30 as they celebrated notable works onscreen in the last year. Orange Is The New Black, Downton Abbey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Viola Davis and Jeffrey Tambor were amongst the nights big winners.

Funny favourites and Sisters stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were the pair rooney and kate mara sistersselected to honour the legendary Carol Burnett with the Life Achievement Award. Real life sisters Kate and Rooney Mara have also been making headlines for walking that red carpet and attending together sporting the same designer (Valentino gowns).

Idris Elba who took home two SAGs for Luthor (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries) and Beasts of No Nation (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture) made a pointed comment referencing the recent drama with whitewashed sitch in his speech.

Idris Elba“Ladies and gentlemen,” he said, “Welcome to diverse television.”

Beasts was obviously snubbed. #OscarsSoWhite.

When the Orange Is The New Black cast went up on stage to claim their win for Performance by an ensemble in a comedy series — diversity had never looked so beautiful.

Though we were disappointed Mara didn’t get the win for Carol, we knew Alicia Vikander deserved to take it home for Performance by a female actor in a supporting role for The Danish Girl
