It’s 2016 and the whole Tanner clan is back. They’ve brought back that ol’ sitcom feel, all things 90s and a current version of the original cast for Fuller House. From back then — but here for us now.
And we can’t tell if we’re nostalgic or uncomfortable about it all.
It’s obviously interesting to see a classic sitcom family we grew up with as, y’know, grown ups. A little then and now to satisfy our curious hearts bleeding with nostalgia.
Though the desire is there to see the Tanner family back in action — it’s hard to say whether or not a situational comedy with a dated formula will make it today. Netflix is banking on old audiences to express enough interest.
As representation and diversity continue to trend when it comes to film and television content — Fuller House is the same white family (literally) we’ve been seeing on TV back to tackle more of their white middle class issues. Sigh.
On the other hand, as Full House fans who were into the show when it was originally on air — we’re obviously going to watch it. Their attempts to bring back their classic lines, from ‘cut it out’ to ‘how rude’ or even ‘you got it dude’ — are making us cringe a little. The cheese is awkward — wholesome humour has been out for a while. Maybe we’re not used to it anymore?
Or maybe audiences are just craving fresh content. We’ll just have to see now, won’t we?
In case you haven’t seen the trailer yet, here it is for you convenience:
