Nostalgic for the 80s? Netflix has a show for you! Winona Ryder stars in Stranger Things, a new series directed by Shawn Levy that pays homage to the supernatural films of the decade.
The premise surrounds the disappearance of a young boy and the search for him spearheaded by his mother Joyce Byers, played by Ryder. The show is set in a small Indiana town where government experiments and supernatural forces are uncovered. The score, the eerie visuals, and special effects seen in the trailer promise a creepy show.
“Ninety-nine out of 100 times a kid goes missing, the kid is with a parent or relative” a police officer tells Ryder in the trailer. “Well, what about the other time? You said 99 out of 100. What about the other time? The one?” she asks.
“It’s all about trying something new,” Ryder told People magazine. “This is a genre that I enjoy watching, but haven’t necessarily explored before, which drew me to the project… I think the audience will love the nostalgic voyage back in time before technology had completely took over. Kids were asked to put their toys away at dinner – not their phones. Yet, there were astronauts were going to space and government conspiracies loomed. It was just such a different world back then.”
All eight episodes premiere on July 15 on Netflix. We won’t be watching alone.
