International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: facts

kylie minogueNovember 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and with one in three women worldwide having experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives, it’s important to talk about.

“Violence against women is a violation of the most basic human rights. It destroys lives, tears families apart, impacts entire communities, and has no place within our society,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.

“Today serves as an important reminder that women and girls – particularly indigenous women and girls – continue to be vulnerable to violence in our society. This must change.”

The Canadian government launched 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence today to encourage Canadians to help end the horrifying trend. Canadians are encouraged to take the #EndViolence pledge on the Status of Women website.

Here’s why we need these movements.
