What would you give up for Wi-Fi? Can you give up wine, coffee, and junk food? How about your friends, your partner, or sex? A new survey by Intrepid Travel talked to 1,500 adults in the US to gage how much they are addicted to technology.
About a third of people would rather give up alcohol or junk food for a month than lose their internet access. About a quarter would give up coffee and 21 per cent would give up sex. Perhaps the most startling stat is that four per cent of people would rather give up showering for a whole 30 days. The survey also revealed how much the internet affects our decisions. Just over 40 per cent of respondents said they will choose to attend events based on how good the photos will look. Almost 50 per cent said they would never go on vacation without their phone (guilty!) and spend about two hours looking for Wi-Fi while away (double guilty).
We kind of already knew this, but now we have the numbers. 35 per cent of those surveyed admit they spend ‘too much’ time online, but half of them would be willing to try and treat their addiction. Yeah…no thanks, but if you’re one of those people who want to be Wi-Fi free, Intrepid Travel launched their ‘Digital Detox’ vacations that are cell phone, tablet, and camera-free.
